The lineage of the Prophet traces to Adnān who is from the offspring of Ismā’īl the son of Ibrahīm عليه السلام.
It is narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas رضي الله عنه that when the Prophet ﷺ used to say his family linage, he used to stop at Adnān. Imam Bukhari mentions the following lineage in the Chapter: The advent of the Prophet ﷺ in the book of Book of Merits of the Helpers in Madina.
Father’s side: Muḥammad the son of Abdullah, the son of Abd ul-Muṭṭalib, the son of Hāšhim, the son of Abd Manāf, the son of Quṣayy, the son of Kilāb, the son of Murrah, the son of Ka’ab, the son of Lu’ayy, the son of Ghālib, the son of Fihr, the son of Mālik, the son of al-Nadr, the son of Kinānah, the son of Khuzaymah, the son of Mudrikah, the son of Ilyās, the son of Muḍar, the son of Nizār, the son of Ma’ad, the son of Adnān.
Mother’s side: Muhammad the son of Aminah, the daughter of Wahab, the son of Abd Manaaf, the son of Zuhrah, the son of Kilaab, the son of Murrah. At this point the lineage is the same as the Prophet ﷺ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed Allah has chosen Isma’il from the children of Ibrahim, and He chose Banu Kinanah from the children of Isma’il, and He chose the Quraish from Banu Kinanah, and He chose Banu Hashim from Quraish, and He chose me from Banu Hashim.
